Dog Cancer Brings Us Together

With tails wagging and tongues hanging out, dogs of all breeds started a 5K walk with their beloved owners at 9am to fight K9 cancer

.Sunday morning, September 12, at 9am, dogs and their owners started the K9's Against Cancer 5K run and 1 mile walk. The mission of this fun day? To find a cure against cancer. Cancer (of any kind) is the number one leading cause of death in dogs, and if you have ever lost a beloved furry friend because of cancer, you know the horrible feeling. Over 150 people showed up for the event and all the profit went to the Bow Wow Buddies foundation, CSU Animal Cancer Center, and the Foothills Animal shelter. The weather couldn't have been better for the event, and everyone had a wonderful time. After the run/walk, many dogs enjoyed cooling off in the baby pools set up especially for them. The owners would then share stories among each other.

Many booths were set up, advertising animal shelters and dog rescue groups. Bow Wow Buddies Foundation gave out pink bandannas to the dogs and t-shirts for every volunteer and registered participant.

Barks echoed across the park as the dogs were all greeting and playing in their own special way. You met many people along the path from booth to booth, all of which had their own story to tell. Many participants had either lost a dog to cancer or had an amazing rescue story about their pet. One woman was in the race wearing a picture of her beloved Labrador retriever, who she had recently lost to Nasal cancer, which is very rare disease. The tales told were amazing and heartbreaking, the dogs were adorable and fun to be around and the race brought all types of dog owners together for a great cause.

Whether you have lost a dog to cancer, you are a dog lover, or you would just love to volunteer at a fun event, consider K9s Against Cancer walk. All the proceeds go to finding a cure and giving homes and loving owners to homeless pets! Visit their website: k-9sagainstcancer.blacktie-athon.com for more information on the event!

Great story!

That is awesome. I am a dog lover AND I love running...A PERFECT COMBO!! I'd really like to come and run at the next one. Good thing you included a website for more information...This is wonderful. And may I ask, do you're dogs have cancer? It seems like they do by the look of the photos. I really hope they are okay and all other dogs with cancer of any type are okay. I mean, dogs with cancer aren't very different from other dogs...Just that they have something that might not help them. Anyways, thanks so much for writing this. It's amazing. I'll be sure to try to come to the next one!
